You must have probably heard that drinking lots of water is good for health. But do you how much you are supposed to take and how much you have had already? How about an iPhone telling you whether you are overhydrated or dehydrated? DEEPA SRINIVASAN introduces you to one

So you are eating an orange for breakfast, drink a tender coconut for the elevenses and have had a bowl of soup for lunch. Or you are one of those health nuts who measure 12 glasses of water in a jug and drink it up in good faith. Yes, drinking water is good for you, but do you know how much you are taking in each day and how much you should be? Do you know which foods hydrate you and those that dehydrate? Absorb Water is a simple iPhone app that can tell you how much hydration you are getting from anything you eat or drink that has a water content over 65%.

For most of us, plain water alone would make our taste buds curl up. Where we dream of a sweetened soda, drinking just water can be boring. So an application that only keeps track of you drinking water is of less use unless it tracks water consumedin any form.

Absorb Water calculates your daily water intake from all sources. This sensible app has no frills and does only one thing! It keeps track of how much water you are absorbing or evaporating from your body. That is it! Use this app for 10 days in a row and you will have the reason why you are not feeling so hot. Cleverly, Absorb Water isn’t all about the foods that are giving you water but those that take it away too, with one of the less pleasant but ultimately important parts of the app being the “Mellow Yellow” chart and the built in colour calculation for tracking your urine colour, which is all you need to track and improve your “personal” hydration progress. Every day your last MY colour will be entered on your “Personal Data” page allowing you hopefully see your urine lighten in colour.

The ultimate aim: Absorb Water is designed to help you drink the equivalent of 12 glasses of water every day but doesn’t force you into heading to the washroom every five minutes.
